Questions
- How do I get the transcript of a YouTube video?
- Paste the video's link into the box above — the normal watch link, a youtu.be short link, a Shorts link, or just the 11-character video id — and the transcript appears with timestamps you can click to jump the video.
- Is this free, and do I need an account?
- Reading, searching, copying and downloading a transcript is free and needs no account. Signing in skips the occasional robot check and lifts the daily limit on videos nobody has fetched here before.
- Which download formats are supported?
- Plain text with or without timestamps, SRT and VTT subtitle files, and JSON for developers. Every file is built in your browser from the transcript already on the page.
- Why does a video say its captions are still processing?
- YouTube writes automatic captions some time after a video is uploaded, and until it has, there is nothing to fetch. Try again later — and a video whose creator switched captions off has no transcript to fetch at all.
- Can I translate the transcript, or transcribe a video with no captions?
- Not here. This page shows YouTube's own captions and nothing else. Summaries and chat live in TubeCortex and need an account.
Captions belong to the people who made the video. To have a video taken out of this tool, email us its link and we will remove it.
